Lammas, Lughnasadh, Freyfest (Freysblot) are just a few of the names given to this time of year. The first harvest represents the first moment during which we can finally begin gathering the fruits of our labor from our hard work during the preceding months. We are more aware of the bright reds and yellows of the autumn season that are just around the corner. Lammas honors the first harvest, when the seeds we have sown provide the fruits of the season. We must reflect back on our lives this past year, and appreciate the progress of our growth. Projects and personal goals we have set into motion in the spring now reap their bounty, and it is so important for us to examine these changes and see how we are affected. Some people, with the change of the calendar year, make personal goals, whether it is spending less money, kicking a bad habit, or spending more time with people we care about. Lammas is the day when we can look at what we have accomplished so far, and see if we have been true to ourselves. Lughnasadh is the perfect time to call upon the goddess to bless you with an abundance of success, wealth, and love. But remember: you won’t receive those blessings without making an effort. So take a step into the unknown and work on forging connections.

You can use the day to give thanks for what you have, or to look deeper into yourself and how the season affects you. What ever you choose to celebrate this day, keep in mind that sabbats are for honoring the God and Goddess. Mystically, so too does the God lose His strength as the Sun rises farther in the South each day and the nights grow longer. The Goddess watches in sorrow and joy as she realizes that the God is dying, and yet lives on inside Her as Her child.
